The Challenge
In 2006 Kosmix technology was filled with potential. Their categorization and concept engines extracted information from the web in ways no one else could, but their search product lacked a coherent use case. More importantly, they needed to find a way to differentiate themselves from the other search engines on the market.
The Solution
Since 2006 ZEN has provided expert design guidance to the Kosmix product design efforts, helping deliver a variety of updates and new products to the market. These products leveraged the strength of Kosmix technology by focusing on the long tail of search topics, and ranged from a deep vertical focus (righthealth.com and rightautos.com) to a broad horizontal (topics.kosmix.com).
The blend of Kosmix cross-functional teams, ZEN’s design leadership, and the core of Kosmix technology has lead to growing success. One example? Over the course of the year (2007) righthealth.com has increased its market share where it is now the 3rd largest health site on the web, with over five and a half million unique visitors in January 2008 alone.
